Two of 43 Papuan asylum seekers in Australia return home

Two of 43 Papuans who had been granted temporary asylum in Australia since January 2006 arrived at Frans Kaisepo airport here on Wednesday morning.
Accompanied by Indonesian consul general in Melbourne, Jahar Gultom, the two asylum seekers, namely Hana Gobay of Merauke district and Yubel Kareni of Yapen Waropen district, arrived here at 6:25 a.m. local time.<>
According to Jahar Gultom, the two Papuans decided at their own will to return from Australia to their home village in Papua.
He said Hana Gobay and Yubel Kareni finally decided to return to Papua because they were longing to see their family members at home.
Gultom said the two Papuans admitted that they were deceived by Herman Wainggai who led the group of 43 asylum seekers to leave Merauke for Australia by boat in January 2006.
"As Indonesian citizens, the two Papuans came to consulate general office in Melbourne to express their longing for their family members at home and therefore we facilitated their return trip," Gultom said at Frans Kaisepo Airport`s transit room. (ant)
