Although Indonesia is also very fertile and has a very abundant natural resources, there have been many indisputable facts about Indonesia's economic condition which is still very poor and deteriorating. Indonesia also has the state budget of several thousand trillion every year, but its people have remained in poverty.<>

Member of the Supreme Council of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) KH Hasyim Muzadi made the remarks at a meeting held at the Pendapa Ronggowarsito Pamekasan, Madura, East Java, on Sunday (11/5).

In the event held by the Pamekasan's Indonesian Islamic Students Movement (PMII), Hasyim said that "the state has made poverty and impoverishment of its citizens."

The poverty, he added, could be seen from the condition of Indonesian people who have still met economic difficulties, so there have been many forcibly doing things that are not expected (for example: robbing , cheating, involving in corruption, stealing, and so on).

"Even, not a few Indonesian citizens who were forced to leave their families for working abroad only to be porters in other countries as migrant workers. Because, in their own country the opportunity to afford their lives is very difficult for not being provided by the government," he explained.

For that reason, he stressed, these conditions could were inseparable from the leaders of this country that are still far from expectations. On this stand, Hasyim added, the political sphere occupied its vital role.

"The leaders (president and vice president, ed) needed by Indonesia today and for the future are individuals who understand the problems of the nation and are able to address them," the idea Kiai Hasyim.

According to him, the leaders of this nation should be capable of understanding economic issues and have a clear commitment in the fight for economic justice and prosperity for all people.

In addition, Hasyim said, other crucial issues facing the nation and the country today were the lack of law enforcement.
