The National Education Ministry plans to conduct an evaluation of international-standard pilot-project schools (RSBI), not only based on academic indicators such as student performance but also non-academic indicators such as the students' morals.
The call comes after students of SMA6 High School in Jakarta attacked a group of journalists on Monday after brawling with students from a neighboring school the previous week. The case is currently being investigated by the police.
The director of middle school education under the ministry, Hamid Muhammad, said that the Research and Development Unit was currently conducting a thorough evaluation of the school.
"In terms of the school's we must assess academic and non-academic [factors], including the morals and characters of students. This is what I will enter in my assessment," Hamid said on Friday as reported by kompas.com.
There are currently 1,305 RSBI schools on Indonesia, comprising 239 primary schools, 356 junior high schools, 359 high schools and 351 vocational high schools. (jp/dar)
