As part of nation’s political building, NU followers (nahdliyin) should participate in direct elections of regional leaders (Pilkada) for Governors, Mayors, and Regents. NU should morally endorse its best cadres to realize a clean and reliable governance.
The statement was one of points as proposed by the Tausiyah Commissions or the Regional Work Session (Muskerwil) of the Central Java’s Nahdlatul Ulama Regional Board (PWNU) in Islamic Boarding "Pesantren" School Al-Itqon, Gugen, Tlogosari, Semarang, Saturday (15/7).
Vice Chairman of the Central Java’s PWNU Dr H Mudjahirin Thohir MA chaired the commission sessions. While the decisions were read by Vice Secretary of the PWNU H Agus Fathuddin Yusuf. For Yusuf, though NU was explicitly consistent to 1926 khittah, it did not mean that the nahdliyin had no political rights.
Dealing with the regional elections process, the nahdliyin are encouraged to use political parties that are capable of representing their aspiration and interests.
At the same time both NU prominent men KH Nurcholish Ali and Drs H Taufiq Ch M Hum read the decisions related to work programs and organization.
The Friday’s forum was closed by Chairman of Supreme Council KH Masruri Mughni and prayer by Chairman of Banyumas NU Supreme Council KH Moh Hidayat.
Spokesperson of the forum Drs H Moh Adnan MA said all decisions of the regional work session would be proposed as materials for coming National and Major Conference in Surabaya, July 27 ahead. (msy)
