Nearly 270 schools get 100 percent failure rate in national exam

As many as 267 senior high and vocational schools recorded 100 percent failure rate in the recent national exam, Education Minister Muhammad Nuh said Tuesday.
“Around 20 percent of the schools are administered by the state. It means that we did not give privilege to state schools during the national exam,” Nuh said as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.<<>br />
The minister said 7,648 students from the schools would be part of a total of 154,051 students across the country who would have to take remedial test on May 10-14.
Most of the failing students had performed poorly in Indonesian language, said Nuh. “This has taught us an important lesson to make improvement in the national exam next year,” he added.
Around 1,530,000 students took the national exam last month.
Students who do not pass the national exam will not qualify for higher education. (jp/dar)
