"It's time for NU to be such a driving locomotive of the national leadership succession in the 2009 election ahead," he said, adding that NU should now be able to play its important roles.
Mun'im explained that in the nation's history NU had big contributions in the process of both establishing and upholding the Republic of Indonesia.

"From the historical facts, NU has had big contributions to this republic from the past to the present. For that reason, why should NU stll be importantly capable of driving the national leadership succession," he said.

As the country's largest Muslim organization, Mun'im said NU had huge  responsibility in addressing the ummah and the nation's problems.
He was of the opinion that in dealing with the problems, NU was expected to be brilliantly able to determine the nation's direction.

"That is part of NU responsibility to the ummah and the nation," he said, adding that NU as part of Indonesia being considered as the world's most populous Muslim country NU could ideally play its important roles to the nation.

"Muslims constitute a majority in Indonesia. That is why NU and Muslims in general should have been a decisive actor in the country," he said.
