The South Jakarta District Court has banned Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD), a homegrown terror group affiliated with Islamic State (IS), as a “forbidden organization”.
"[We] found the organization guilty of carrying out acts of terror. We also declare that the JAD and other organizations affiliated with IS be disbanded," presiding judge Aris Bawono read out the ruling on Tuesday.
The judge also ordered the organization to pay a Rp 5 million (US$347) fine.
The prosecution indicted the group on July 24 for allegedly carrying out a number of terror acts across the country. Prosecutors also said that JAD was a terrorist network that had harmed the people.
The prosecution requested the court to rule that JAD and other groups affiliated with IS were “forbidden organization” and fine the group Rp 5 million.
During the hearing, JAD was represented by Zainal Anshori, the head of JAD's East Java chapter considered to be the group's second-in-command after Aman Abdurrahman. Aman, the group's founder, was recently convicted for terrorism and is currently on death row.
Zainal said JAD would not appeal the ruling. (JP/Masdar)
