Deputy Minister: NU maintains NKRI, PMII maintains NU

Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs KH Nasaruddin Umar said the existence of Indonesia that is diverse and resilient in the Unitary State of Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) was completely inseparable from the contribution of the country's largest Muslim organization, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), including the Indonesian Islamic Students Movement (PMII).<>

"NU will always faithfully maintain the NKRI, and its intellectual products are derived from PMII. They will keep maintaining both the NU and the NKRI," the Bugis descent said on the sidelines of a meeting held by the  Alumni Association of PMII (IKAPMII) of South Sulawesi here on Sunday (10/8).

Nazaruddin highly appreciated their prominent role in maintaining the nation's harmony from any possible threats of disintegration. "All this is because the PMII has always remained maintaining its nationality," he said.

Meanwhile, chairman of the IKAPMII Kadir Ahmad said the purposeful meeting was very strategic, especially in dealing with various nationality and religious challenges.

"the PMII alumni of South Sulawesi devoted themselves to serve and spreading across different professions are, of course, in need of space in order to discuss various issues," he said, adding that the PMII alumni owned resources would committed to taking part in any socio-religious movement struggles in the midst of changes ahead."

Present also at the occasion were chairman of South Sulawesi's Indoensian Ulema Council (MUI) AGH Sanusi Baco LC, HM Ghazali Suyuti, Rector of the Indonesian Muslim University (UMI) Prof. Dr. Mochtar Masrurah, Prof. Dr. Mochtar Noor Jaya, as well as a number of senior figures of PMII such as Arfah Siddiq, Rahman Idrus, Abdurrahman K, Mukhlis Latif, Chairman of GP Ansor of South Sulawesi, M Tonang Cawidu, Chairman of the PMII of South Sulawesi, Ismail Mangngaga.
