ICIS will hold its conference in Situbondo's pesantren

The International Conference of Islamic Scholars (ICIS) will hold its conference at Pesantren Salafiyah Syafi'iyah Sukorejo, Situbondo, East Java, next week. The conference aims to reinforce and introduce the Islamic moderate values.<>

One of the organizing committees KH Misbahussalam said the conference which will held on 28-30 March will be attended by Muslim scholars (ulema) such as Sheikh Wahbah Az Zuhaili (Syria), Ali Jum'ah (Egypt), Sheikh Muhammad Yisif (Moroccon Mufti), Shaykh Abdul - Karim Ad Dhibaghi​​, Sheikh Mohammed bin Lancene Hasani and so on.

"While the uleme from Indonesia itself are, among others, KH  Quraysh Shihab, KH Ma'ruf Amin, KH Tholhah Hasan, and leaders of pesantren," he said after attending a preparatory meeting in the pavilion of Pesantren Salafiyah Syafi'iyah Sukorejo, Situbondo, on Friday (21/3).

Kiai Misbah added the conference was expected to at least result in favorable decision, especially in giving input and suggestions for the condition of the Middle Eastern countries that are currently trapped  into ongoing conflicts.

"This may be a conceptual contribution to help (Middle East) countries recover from their own prolonged conflict which is partly based on religious sentiments," he said.

Meanwhile, the Secretary General of the ICIS KH Hasyim Muzadi said, the Kiai Azaim-led pesantren was chosen to meet the demand of the late KH Fawaid Syamsul Arifin. 

He said, the late KHR Ahmad Fawaid As'ad ever came to his house, asking in within a century, there would be held an international ulema conference in the pesantren.

"This pesantren is very historic. In this place, the NU Congress in 1984 was held, resulting in moderate Islamic values ​​and the so-called Khitthah NU," he said.
