The Central Board of Muslimat Nahdlatul Ulama (PP Muslimat NU) held a religious gathering webinar in Preventing Radicalization in Jakarta, Wednesday (15/12/2021). One of issues discussed in the event is making the efforts to strengthen cooperation that could be carried out under the umbrella of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Prevention of Criminal Acts of Terrorism.

The contents of the MoU expected Muslimat NU as a women's organization under the auspices of NU to be able to fortify Indonesia from the notion of terrorism and radicalism. The MoU was signed directly by the Head of the National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT) Komjen Pol Boy Rafli Amar and General Chairwoman of PP Muslimat NU Hj Khofifah Indar Parawansa.

According to Khofifah, this collaboration is very strategic considering the phenomenon of radicalism using religious narratives is rife in Indonesia. Therefore, she called on Muslimat NU to become the agents of peace.

"It is our duty to convey that Islam is a mercy for the universe to sow the seeds of peace, the presence of Islam will sow love and build strong brotherhood. We are ready to be a part of carrying out the mission of Islam rahmatan lil alamin,” she said.

Meanwhile, Boy Rafli Amar said thousands of people had been exposed to radical terrorism and had fled to conflict areas. In fact, nowadays women and the younger generation are no longer just supporters or followers. Even, they are the actors of terrorism.

According to him, if likened to a virus, the vaccines that could cure radicalism and terrorism are the four national consensus, namely Pancasila, Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, and the 1945 Constitution. Therefore, he believed that Muslimat NU could build a moderate religious narrative with a national spirit.

"We see that PBNU stands for the Indonesia's four national and state consensus with the principle of religious moderation, Islam rahmatan lil alamin is a narrative that strengthens the spirit of national values," said Boy.

Through this cooperation, BNPT and Muslimat NU agreed to disseminate information regarding the prevention of radicalism and intolerance to all Muslimat NU members and give trainings in the context of preventing criminal acts of terrorism.
