NU circles reject FDS policy

The 2nd national meeting held by NU circles engaged in education produced a number of recommendations. Chairman of Ma'arif NU KH Arifin Junaidi appointed by the committee to chair Focus Group Discussion (FGD), read the recommendations.

"I only read five recommendations agreed by the FGD participants," he said in the meeting held at the Jakarta's Acacia Hotel on Monday (7/8),

First, President Jokowi has to instruct the Minister of Education and Culture Muhadjir Effendy to revoke the Regulation of Minister of Education and Culture (Permendikbud) regulating the Full Day School policy.

Second, appealing to the public not to vote for legislative candidates from parties that do not support the revocation of Permendikbud which regulates the Full Day School policy.

Third, encouraging the National Awakening Party (PKB) to order all members of the House of Representatives in all levels to facilitate peaceful demonstrtations to reject Permendikbud regulating the School of All Day policy.

Fourth, asking the Cnetral Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) to order members of the House of Representatives from among Nahdliyin to support the revocation of Permendikbud regulating the Full Day School policy.

Fifth, asking the Ma'arif NU to support and instruct joint prayers simultaneously in all madrasah and schools under the auspices of the institution in collaboration with the IPNU / IPPNU Commissariat Commiitte based in schools.

The FGD was attended by around 50 representatives. All supported the revocation of Full Day School. In fact, some people urged President Jokowi to replace Minister of Education and Culture because of his policy that did not appreciate the local wisdom. (Musthofa Asrori/Masdar)
