NU denies given names candidate of vice president

Vice chairman of the central board of Nahdlatul Ulama Robikin Emhas denied rumours that NU has recomended four names as candidate of vice president to Joko Widodo who now tries to run for second presidential period

“Surely, until now, Nahdlatul Ulama never gives four names as vice president candidate as rumoured,” said Robikin Emhas to NUOnline in Jakarta, Monday (6/8).

He said that he has been confronting with some NU commitees who claimed as news resources. “I tried to confirm to the name as interviewed in the media, but they admit never make such statement to press,” he said.

He stressed that NU is not a political party, but NU is islamic mass organization with moderat values and nation guard.

“NU is not political party. Therefore, NU is not political vehicle. Otherwise NU is consistenly as islamic organization based on Ahlusunnah wal Jamaah An Nahdliyah that mainstreamed moderate and tolerance moslem; maintain and guiding Pancasila,” he added. 

However, Robikin realized that because of  NU has million of followers, NU has a great political power. He doesn’t deny that many people come to NU’s office with some interests, such as social, religious, even political interest. 

“We realize if several parties try to get sympathy from NU follower because NU is the largest islamic mass organization in Indonesia, even in the world. Our position is only answer if people want to ask the aspiration of NU followers in the next presidential election,” he continued. (Ahmad Rozali)
