NU Online: A 10 year journey

Culture is a big 'creature' after man. It is attached to the man, both its 'form' and 'content'. Because of the culture, a human could be regarded as beautiful or ugly in addition to being considered cultured or uncultured.<>

And it's not impossible, the culture is a largest 'revelation' since given to all kinds of people, not just to apostles and prophets.

At this point, let us jump to browse and explore Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and Islamic boarding schools (pesantren). And let's jump to conclusions about pesantren and culture that moves and makes it exist.

There are at least three points used as the cultural bases by pesantren: religious or divine values​, respect for traditions of the past, and openness to the new. And with full awareness, pesantren have the three things that make schools necessitate diversity of the Adam's descendants and all their cultures and beliefs.

The three have long been manifested in religious practices and attitudes, manifested in everyday life, in addition to being the vision and ideals to protect, establish, and develop human civilization.

On account of the three, the late KH Ahmad Siddiq could write NU principles so-called (Khittah Nahdlatul Ulama or Khittah Nahdliyah). It had been previously stated, in the Qonun Asasi written by Hadrotush Sheikh KH Hasyim Asy'ari (1926) and the so-called Mabadi Khorio Ummah which was formulated in the NU Congress in Magelang 1939.

The notes above are the background of NU Online as the official news portal of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama to make culture efforts having been done and preserved in the last ten years.

The series of the NU Online's ten-year journey (2003-2013) are divided into four sessions, which are held for four consecutive months, March, April, May, and June.

The first session explores the cultural movement having taken place in pesantren and NU communities. Since the beginning of this month, we reported arts and cultural events in various regions, Genjring (in Subang), a group of shalawat (in Solo), Ketoprak (in Jepara), there has been a movement of thought, until flavorful culture humors.

The first session will be closed with a cultural speech and Asrul Sani Award which will be held at the NU headquarters, on Thursday, March 28, 2013.

The second session or April, NU Online will take a theme on technology. There will be the launch of the works of modern technology from NU Online and NU communities not structurally incorporated into NU. They are NU followers having great interests in technology.

The third session in May, will focus on the pesantren literacy. In this session, there will be an exhibition of pesantren books with local languages, pesantren-themed seminars and festivals.

The fourth session is sho-called ikhtitam. In this session, there will expectedly a taushiyah (religious sermon) and prayer by Rais Aam (general chairman of lawmaking body of NU) KH NU. A. Sahal Mahfudz.

At this point, NU Online only wishes for one thing, there is a new effort in continuing the relationship of NU followers (jama'ah) and moving the NU organization (jam'iyyah).
