The Indonesia's largest muslim organization Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) will soon establish the Palestinian Humanitarian and Independence Committee (K3P) to help address the humanitarian crisis in the country.

"The task of K3P is to uphold the safety and rights of the Palestinian people in addition to raising the world's solidarity to jointly fight for Palestinian independence," the Secretary General of NU Helmy Faishal Zaini told reporters here on Wednesday (26/7).

He said the committee was a follow up to the 33rd NU Congress order in Jombang 2015, East Java.

Helmy strongly disagreed with those thinking that what happened in Palestine was a religious conflict.

Therefore, he said, NU urged the countries that belong to the UN Security Council permanent membership such as France, UK, America and Russia to immediately provide protection for the Palestinian people.

According to him, protective action against Palestinians is important to dismiss the issue of UN alignments for being considered to have ignored Palestine.

"We look at what is happening in Palestine is a humanitarian crisis, so this committee is not only limited to the so-called ukhuwah Islamiyah. Rather, it is ukhuwah insaniyah (brotherhood of humanity)," said Helmy. (Abdullah Alawi / Masdar)
