Nahdliyin Expected to Hold joint Prayer, Tahlil and invisible Prayers for Tsunami Victims

Nahdliyin (NU followers) around the country are expected to hold joint payer, tahlil, and invisible prayers for the victims as a result of the earthquake and tsunami which struck West and Central Java coast lines Pangandaran in southwest Java on Monday 17 July.

“This (tsunami) was our quake. That is why we hope all of NU followers across Indonesia to hold joint prayer, tahlil, and invisible prayers for our brothers as a result of the quake,” said General Chairman of the Islamic Preaching Institution of Nahdlatul Ulama (LDNU) KH Nuril Huda to NU Online at PBNU Building, Jln Kramat Raya 164 Jakarta, Wednesday (19/7).

He also expected to especially NU followers to send relief items to the affected areas. “Whatever that we can do, please do it by collecting funds, foods, clothes, and so on to assist the victims,” said kiai Nuril.

Monday's tsunami is estimated to have caused at least Rp 500 billion in losses, with once thriving Pangandaran hotel industry hard hit.

According to data from the province's tourist office, 63 of 114 hotels along the Pangandaran stretch of coastline were heavily damaged. The disaster also damaged 162 restaurants, 165 shops and kiosks and 68 houses, it said. (rif)
