The Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) is paying for the schooling of 500 tsunami orphans in Aceh Besar district. Antara reported.
"The program is aimed at assisting Aceh children in pursuing better education in the future," the OIC`s administrative and financial manager, Era Purike, said on Sunday.<>
Under the program kicked off in January 2008, each of the orphans deserved US$30 in aducational aid per month. The assistance would be given until they were 18 years old, Era said.
He said the aid consisted of US$2 for tuition fee, US$2 for healthcare, US$2 for training courses and the rest for living cost.
Aceh bore the brunt of a 8.9 magnitude undersea earthquake and a subsequent tsuanmi on December 26, 2005 when more than 190,000 people perished. (dar)
