Jakarta, NU Online
Efforts taken by the country’s largest Muslim organization, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) to prepare Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) and social surroundings in facing disaster have been being continuously developed through its community-based disaster risk management (CBDRM NU).
Following its previous meetings in Magelang and Jember, the CBDRM NU conducted Wednesday (4/10) a discussion at the Jakarta’s pesantren Assidiqiyah to monitor disaster potentials such as flood, fire and so on especially in vulnerable regions.
At the forum, pesantren Assidiqiyah and all of its circles asserted its preparedness to help activities dealing with disaster mitigation. All of the involved circles would be then trained through skills and understanding related to disaster potential and risk management.
The leader of the pesantren, KH Nur Iskandar SQ said that many concepts of disaster management have so far remained such merely theories. “Pesantren Assidiqiyah and its 1000 santris are ready to participate in activities dealing with the disaster mitigation,” he said. (mkf)
