Ansor declares war against deviant Qur'an study group

The Ansor Youth Movement of Gresik has declared war against a Qur'an study group so-called Majelis Tafsir Al-Qur'an (MTA) for being considered to have disturbed and caused confrontation and conflict in society.<>

"for the first step, this week each sub-district level board (of Ansor) is asked to display banners in every region as the initial pressure," said Muhammad Faizin, Chairman of the Gresik's Ansor, after a coordination meeting to discuss the dissolution of the MTA, in the Branch Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PCNU) office of Gresik, Jl. Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo, recently.

The banner will clearly be emblazoned with the logos of Ansor and Banser (Ansor Multipurpose Personnel) of Gresik. 

"That is part of our declaration of 'war' (on the MTA). From our points of view, the followers of the group have spread throughout Gresik," he said, adding that, that he NU youth wing would fisrtly see the MTA's response to the banners. 

In addition, Faizin said, Ansor would also hold a dialogue with the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) of Gresik and the local to soon disband it," he said.

"If we attack directly to the MTA office located in the Sidosermo village, Kebomas subdistrict, we will considered unlawful. Since the dissolution of the MTA is actually the local government domain. But if there is no action from the local government or the MUI, we will follow our own ways," he added.

Furthermore, he said, the East Java MUI has considered deviant for allegedly violating religious teachings, such as allowing dog [meat consumption] and forbidding tahlilan [a gathering to hold prayers for the dead].
