Banyuwangi’s Meteorological Agency issued Friday warnings of a possible Tsunami around the Banyuwangi south coast. It then expected Banyuwangi’s residents to keep on guard against the quake and tsunami.
As reported by the national news agency Antara, the spokesman of the Banyuwangi’s Metereological Agency, Himawan said that the south coast of Banyuwangi is one of vulnerably earthquake belt areas. He suggested that in 1994 the south coast of Banyuwangi was ever struck by the quake and tsunami.
Among vulnerably quake belt areas, Himawan added, were Pancer, Lampon, and Rajukwesi coast, located in Pesanggrahan District, Grajakan coast in Purwoharjo and Muncar coast in Banyuwangi.
Besides the Agency also warned inhabitants of the capital of Banyuwangi about the possibility of the quake in Bali strait.
“because both quake and tsunami can not be predicted, so all people around the coast areas are expected to keep on guard,” he said. (dar)
