Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Students Association (IPNU) of West Kalimantan, Paryadi was installed as deputy mayor of Pontianak for the period 2008-2013 along with mayor-elect Sutarmidji at the Pontianak Convention Center (PCC) Monday (22/12).

Sutarmidji and Paryadi nominated by the Development United Party (PPP) and the Indonesian Justice and Unity Party (PKPI) were installed following their win in the Regional Elections (Pilkada) on 25 October 2008. They dominated in all subdistricts, namely 34,37 percent of total votes.<>

Sutarmidji and Paryadi defeated other six pairs. Their significant lead was then followed by the Gusti Hernan-Setiawan Lim pair that reached 19.99 percent.

Paryadi congratulated all people in Pontianak for succeeding the Pilkada. "Due to the power of God and active participation of all people in Pontianak, Insya Allah, we can accomplish this mandate as good as possible," he said.

As reported by NU Online's Ahmad Wari, Paryadi also specifically expressed his appreciation to all of the Pontianak IPNU cadres and senior figures for supporting him during the Pilkada.

Paryadi said though the IPNU formally did not support him, the spirit of cadres of the Pontianak IPNU could be considered as a decisive factor. "My nearest duty is now preparing the annual meeting of IPNU of Pontianak to maintain regeneration of cadres," he said. (rif)
