KH Nuril Arifin called on all Nahdliyin to keep the spirit of nationalism. In the 1936 Congress before the independence, NU had been determined and vowed to fight the need to form the Republic of Indonesia.<>
Gus Nuril made the statement on the sidelines of an inauguration of village-level NU boards across Curug subdistrict, Tangerang, Banten over the weekend (2/3).
According to him, as a fortress, history has proven the NU loyalty to the homeland, both in the pre-independence and post- independence.
Gus Nuril also said that the NU had played an important role, especially in defending and fortifying the teachings of Ahlussnnah wal jamaah (Aswaja) in the national and international levels.
Through the Hijaz Committee led by KH Wahab Chasbullah, he said, NU clerics held 'diplomatic' talks with Saudi Arabia's King not to demolish the Prophet Muhammad's tomb.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the NU chapter of Curug H. Mahfud Badrun SH, MH expressed his greatly appreciation to the leader of Pesantren Miftahul Khoir Kiai Hafid Gunawan for over the years having supported any effort to develop and maintain NU in the region.
