PPP cadres protest government's support for Iran resolution

Hundreds of United Development Party (PPP) cadres staged a rally outside the East Java governor’s office here on Friday protesting against the government’s decision to support the UN  Security Council resolution imposing tougher sanctions on Iran over its controversial nuclear program.

As reported by Antara news agency, the protesters earlier marched from Jalan Kombes M Duryat to the governor’s office, carrying a number of posters which among others read "Sever  Indonesian-US  ties", and "Condemn SBY for his support for UN Security Council Resolution 1747".<>

The protesters were denied entry into the office as it was tightly guarded by hundreds of security personnel.

In their oration outside the office compound, the protesters condemned UNSC Resolution 1747, urged the government to withdraw its support for the resolution and asked the East Java governor to convey their demand to the central government. 

Seen joining the rally were Muh Lukman and Yusuf Hidayat, members of the party’s provincial executive board, Zaini Ghazali, member of the PPP faction in the East Java provincial legislative council, and a number of housewives clad in green attire. (dar)
