Australian Muslims not have to defend drug dealers

Drug crimes are the national problems, Australia should understand it. Muslims there do not have to defend the drug dealers who have been sentenced to death by the Indonesian legal system by continuing to expect the openness of the government and people of Indonesia.<>

NU Chairman KH Slamet Effendi Yusuf mare the remarks in a meeting with Independent Senator of South Australia, Nick Xenophon and Islamic Mufti of Australia, Sheikh Abdurrahman Kafrawi Hamzah at the NU office in Jakarta on Tuesday (10/3).

Both figures not representing the Australian government but representing Muslims in Australia were received by the Secretary General of NU H Marsudi Syuhud and ranks of NU officials such as KH Masdar Farid Mas'udi, H Iqbal Sulam, and Prof Dr H Kacung Marijan, and Treasurer of NU H Bina Suhendra.

"Keep in mind, Australian drug dealers in Indonesia have continued to increase, this is a extraordinary crime, if the death penalty is not carried out, the dignity of the nation will only be underestimated, Muslims there do not have to worry, if there are problems, NU will definitely help," Slamet told Kafrawi.

Meanwhile, Kiai Masdar added that the drug crimes had damaged and killed many people for personal and financial interests.

"I think the Indonesian government has been good with respect to the legal action of 'Duo Bali Nine'. In Singapore, the death row inmates can no longer apply for any legal action after the verdict," said Masdar.

Kafrawi who is also Alice Spring Mosque imam said that his coming along  with senator Nick hoped that the Indonesian government and the people touched their heart by giving amnesty to the two Australian drug smugglers on death row, Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran.

They also acknowledged, the PM Tony Abbott's statement was very embarrassing related to the Australian aid to victims of the 2004 Tsunami.

"This step is very embarrassing," Nick said.
