Historical actors speak about 1926 Khittah

The NU 27th Congress in Situbondo asserting itself to return to the 1926 Khittah (principles) and its acceptance of Pancasila was re-discussed at a nationl meeting in Pesantren Salafiyah Syafi'iyah, Sukorejo, Banyuputih subdistrict, Situbondo on Wednesday (12/6).<>

The meeting taking up the Dynamics of Thought of Ulema National Conference and the NU 27th Congress" was attended by a number of historical figures.

They were, among others, KH Muchit Muzadi as assistant of KH Ahmad Siddiq, KH Hasyim Muzadi as the local organizing committee; H Ahmad Thohir, personal doctor of KH As'ad Syamsul Arifin; Mohammed Baharun, Tempo magazine reporter who was given access by KH As'ad to freely cover the congress, and Slamet Effendi Yusuf, Chairman of GP ANSOR in the time.

They gave testimonies in regard with the historical congress. "We here want to convey historical facts, not historical interpretations. We were amazed by the thinking of the senior ulema. Although they lived so simply, they could change the understanding of the Muslim in terms of religion and the state," Slamet Effendi Yusuf said.

While KH Hasyim Muzadi said that currently there had been a chaotic understanding between the khittah and politics, so we are in need of explanations from the historical actors in terms of the return of NU to the 1926 Khittah.

"Politics could not be removed from the state, but how to practice good politics," he said, adding that the good politics could give a good understanding about both the Khittah and politics."

The meeting was opened by the leader of Pesantren Slafiyah Syafi'iyah, KH Ahmad Azaim Ibrahimy, and was a series of pre-event and NU National Conference that will be held in August in addition to commemorating the first century of the pesantren.
