Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Scholars Association (ISNU) Ali Masykur Musa agreed with the use of so-called ahlul halli wal aqdi (people of authority) for the system of Islamic leadership should prioritize the wisdom-people.<>
"Competition that is too liberal is not in line with the culture of Ahlusunnah wal Jamaah (Aswaja) leadership and therefore I encourage and fully agree with ahlul halli wal aqdi," he said.
Ahlul halli wal aqdi in the NU tradition should consist of its senior figures (ulema) who meet certain requirements. He said that the people of authority could choose either rais aam (general chairman of the advisory board) and general chairman of the executive board (tanfidziyah) of NU.
"Tanfidziyah is responsible for implementing any policies made by syuriyah (advisory board), ahlul halli will, in turn, choose both syuriyah and tanfidziyah," he said.
