KH Anwar Musaddad proposed as national hero

The Research and Review Team of Regional Title (TP2GD) of West Java stated that KH Anwar Musaddad was eligible to hold the title of National Hero. Therefore it would propose him for the title this year.<>

The Garut regent Rudi Gunawan and West Java Provincial Government through the Assistant III also supported the TP2GD. Both made the remarks at a seminar taking the theme "Proposing Prof. KH Anwar Musaddad as National Hero "at the Aneka Bakti Building, the Ministry of Social Affairs, Jakarta, Thursday (2/4).

If Kiai Anwar was appointed as National Hero, said Rudi, he would raise the image of Garut and West Java.

"This support is inseparable from his own roles as both Muslim scholar and intellectual," he said.

Rudi added, as a tribute to the former deputy of NU supreme council until the end of his life, Garut had perpetuated his name on a strategic road along the 2.5 km.

Prior to the seminar, the committee read significant roles played by KH Anwar Musaddad. He co-founded the State Islamic University in 1951 in Yogyakarta. Since then, there have been many Islamic colleges in various regions throughout the country. He then set up established Sunan Gunung Djati Islamic State University of Bandung and became its first rector.

Kiai Anwar born in 1909 and died in 2000 also took part physically in fighting with Laskar Hizbullah during the war of independence and also engaged in any Islamic propagation and education after independence.

The seminar was opened by the Minister of Social Affairs Hj Khofifah Indar Parawansa and was attended by such speakers as historian Taufik Abdullah, Nina Herlina Lubis, Dadan Wildan, and Mumuh Muhsin ZM.
