Indonesian Council of Ulama (MUI) stated that Indonesia still needed foreign teachers to enrich Islamic education. The ulama argued that foreign teachers could teach Arabic language.<>
As reported by NU online, the Ministry of Manpower banned foreign workers to teach their religious theology in schools and universities, saying that his policy was aimed at preventing possibe radicalism in the country.
"Foreign teachers help us. For instance, as a native Arabic speaker, they will motivate students to learn Arabic language," Head of Foreign Relations at MUI, Muhyidin Junaidi, said recently.
He said that government overreacted. The number of foreign workers teaching Theology in Indonesia is also not significant. "It would be better for government to solve the problem of Indonesian workers," he said.
Currently, there have been some 64,000 foreigners teaching in Indonesia. Most of them are from Asia, such as China, Japan, Korea, and Malaysia.
