The poor quality of justice in the country has sparked concern from almost all parts of Indonesian people, including Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), Indonesia's largest Muslim organization. For improvement efforts, NU views there are 5 aspects that judges must address.<>

General Chairman of the Central Board of NU KH Said Aqil Siroj said the 5 aspects included bashirah (instinct), dlamir (moral), fuad (conscience), asraar (metaphysical), and Lathifah (softness).

Kiai Said explained improvements in the bashirah aspect would make people instinctively able to know what is good and bad.

"If the people have been able to use their bashirah well, it will have implications for the function of the heart namely dlomir (moral), which in practice is divided into three degrees, the first is ijtima'i (doing good or bad based on belief systems of surrounding communities). Performing appropriate social impetus for getting praise. The second is qanuni (the establisment of local regulation), and the third is diny (religious aspect), people act based on religious considerations," Kiai Said said here on Thursday (15/2

"The two things are insperable. Maybe one's bashirah was already good, but because it was covered by lust, then his dlamir was sacrificed. So the two must be addressed."

The third aspect, Kiai Said added, was fuad (conscience). If the bashirah and dlamir aspects of the judges could be used properly, it will produce a conscience which has very sharp and sensitive detection.
"Conscience will make a very honest and never lie-decision. Any slightest mistake and truth will be seen, felt, and give a decision in such a way, "he explained.

Kiai Said continued, a human being, especially working as a judge who daily struggles in the search for justice should have the three basic aspects, in order to make honest, fair and accountable decisions.

"Leaders and decision makers who already utilize these aspects will become dignified law enforcement apparatus who have moral values and integrity, so their decision will bring benefits to society and the state.

If the three basic aspects are already well run, there are two others that also have to be sharpened. The first is asraar, the mystery power (for being able to penetrate the mystery), so one could 'read' things that are metaphysical. In turn, the implications and public responses could be seen following the decision.

While the second aspect which should also be geared up in addition to the three basic aspects is lathifah (softness), which is the software being able to access the thoughts and consciousness of people, and could sensitize and mobilize the community to lead the right way.

"The fourth and fifth aspects have very high stations and are difficult to achieve, because the aspects require the heavy riyadloh and the guidance of a murshid (spiritual teacher). If someone has functioned his heart perfectly, he will be a wise man in leading and setting and taking a decision," Kiai Said said.
