NU Yogyakarta receives Afghan professors' visit

The Regional Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PWNU) Yogyakarta received a visit from abroad. On Tuesday (11/11), nine professors teaching at several universities in Afghanistan came to the headquarters of PWNU Yogyakarta.<>
They were warmly wecomed by officials of PWNU Yogyakarta such as Sahiron Shamsuddin, Salim Mukhtar, Faturrachman and Suharto Juwaini, at the headquarters located at Jalan MT Haryono No. 40-42 Yogyakarta.
Sahiron Shamsuddin said that their arrival was in order to know the development of Islam in Indonesia from the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), the Indonesia's largest Muslim organization, adding that They asked about the history and development of NU, including about the NU relationships with other organizations.
"There are many raising questions. But I reiterate, NU is a moderate Islamic organization being a blessing for the universe (rahmatan lil 'alamin). NU does not justify any radical measures," said Sahiron after the meeting.
He also added, NU did not have relations with Islamic organizations abroad, such as the Wahhabis, the Muslim Brotherhood or so on.
"With such a visit NU could provide an understanding of peaceful and moderate Islam (having so fa been maintained and preserved by NU)," he said.
