Deputy Dean of Social and Politics Sciences Faculty of Islamic State University (UIN) Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta A Bakir Ihsan appreciated new regulation, Government Regulation Number 43 Year 2018 about giving an award for corruption reporters.

“Good, because it provides participation rooms for public to minimize or restrict corruptor movements,” said Ihsan in Jakarta, on Thursday (10/11).

However, the regulation must be complemented with giving awareness to the public about social sanction to corruptors. Because, he continued, the public didn’t have good understanding about the danger of corruption.

“The problem also come from our community, as examples, there are not strong social sanction to corruption cases in our community. Even, chicken thieves got more severe punishment compared to corruptors because the corruption is not understood to take their own, but to take state own, although the impact is massive. That is, no good understanding in our community,” he states.

According to him, if the public understanding about the danger of corruption is strong, so they would not choose parliament candidates or executive candidates who have been ever punished because of corruption cases.

“That is no less important, giving the public understanding of the danger of corruption,” he affirmed.
Therefore, he continued, in the corruption eradication, the government was not only enough by just making regulations, but also strengthen culture by giving role models.

“This is need many stages, a long processes because it must be done from two sides, structural and cultural. If the policy, after released, it was finished. But it not necessarily effective. Therefore, it needs two approaches, namely structural approach through government policy and strengthen community cultures by value and role models,” he explained.

The government on Thursday (10/9) released Government Regulation that would give an award in the form of charter and prize with the maximum amount 200 millions rupiah. (Husni Sahal/Fathoni)
