Kiai Ma'ruf guides news anchor Tio Nugroho to convert to Islam

Member of the Advisory Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) KH Ma'ruf Amin guided a senior anchor Imanuel Bagus Aditio Nugroho popularly known as Tio Nugroho to convert to Islam. Tio pronounced with sincere conviction the two syahadah (declaration of faith) at the Kiai Ma'ruf's residence, Jln Situbondo, Menteng, Central Jakarta, Saturday (1/6).

When guiding the recitation of the syahadah, Kiai Ma'ruf previously made sure that Tio had carried out this process with full awareness and of his own willingness. "Are you ready to say the declaration of faith to convert to Islam?" asked Kiai Ma'ruf as in the video aired by INews, Sunday afternoon.

Tio who at that time shaked hands with Kiai Ma'ruf immediately answered (I am) "ready" while nodding his head.

Kiai Ma'ruf then asked whether there was compulsion or pressure in his decision to convert to Islam. Tio answered firmly "no".

"Alhamdulillah," said the supreme council of NU for the 2015-2018 period.

Kiai Ma'ruf guided Tio to pronounce the declaration of faith along with its translation.

After pronouncing the syahadah, Tio kissed the hand of Kiai Ma'ruf for a few seconds. Kiai Ma'ruf then closed the process of Tio's muslim convert by offering a prayer. Tio appeared sobbing and repeatedly wiped his tears.

Tio was called to become Muslim because he shuddered to hear the call to prayer at dawn after work. Hearing the story, Kiai Ma'ruf said he was happy. According to him, this is the guidance of Allah to His servants. (Mahbib/Masdar)
