NU: All Indonesian people have to defend Palestine

The supreme leader of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) KH Ma'ruf Amin, popularly known as Kiai Ma'ruf, said that defending Palestine was a must for all Indonesian people, adding that Palestine helped Indonesia in the independence period.
According to him, all elements of this nation have to defend Palestine from colonialism and all kind of unfair treatments.
He also called on all Indonesian people, including from non-Muslims to come together and show their humanity and unity of Indonesian to defend Palestine in addition to keeping their best attitude in protesting the President Donald Trump's decision for recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
Although Muslims in Indonesia are deeply offended by Trump's decision, the people still need to be calm, he said.
The chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) was of the opinion that the US unilateral recognition of Jerusalem as Israeli capital was not religiously motivated. Rather, it was the systematic colonization of Palestine, which must be opposed by the world community. (Masdar)
