Pagar Nusa told to uphold NU and the nation

The General Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Martial Art (PSNU) Pagar Nusa Muhammad Nabil Haroen (Gus Nabil) emphasized that Pagar Nusa must be strong in protecting NU and the nation.

“When it becomes such a fence, it must be sturdy. We are at the forefront," he said during the inauguration of the PSNU Pagar Nusa Riau of Riau which was coupled with the Commemoration of the 96th Anniversary of Nahdlatul Ulama and the 36th Anniversary of Pagar Nusa, at the Darurrahman Ukui Islamic Boarding School, Pelalawan, Riau, Sunday (16/1/2022).

Pagar Nusa in its mars lyrics is called the warrior of the nation. This, he said, was because the Pagar Nusa fighters were warriors who didn't only protect their fellow Pagar Nusa fighters. However, they must protect the entire nation's bloodshed.

Gus Nabil said that the Pagar Nusa Core Members were always entrusted with the task of maintaining security in the frontline because of their professionalism. To become an extraordinary fighter, according to him, it must be built with cohesiveness, solidity, and loyalty.

“Just being solid without being loyal is meaningless. All PSNU Pagar Nusa branch managements in Riau must obey all Pagar Nusa regional management. All branch all over the world and and regional managements throughout Indonesia must comply with the PP," he said.

On that occasion, Gus Nabil also stated that Pagar Nusa needed quality members, not just quantity. The exact number in Indonesia is only 6,000 members. This is because the high specifications applied to meet the criteria for fighters to be eligible to become the core members.

At least, he said, the prospective core member should be a trainer. He recounted the core member selection process in Lampung of 1,000 people who registered, only 754 who passed to the next stage. In fact, in the next process, only 600 of them became the core members.

The core members are not only able to apply various martial arts moves in a match or certain conditions that require it. Even, they are also obliged to understand and memorize the various religious practices carried out and traditionalized by Nahdliyin (NU members).

He said, the core members were not solely for the gallant manner. However, the Pagar Nusa core members should be equipped with deadly and paralyzing moves.

Previously, there had been the First Education (Diktama) of the Pagar Nusa Core Members for three days.
