Religious Moderation is not just religious guidance and demands, but also a message of humanity littered fully with the messages that uphold human values even though they come from different backgrounds and beliefs.
The millennial preacher, Habib Husein Ja'far al-Haddar, made the remarks at the National Webinar on Al-Qur'an, Young Generation, and Religious Moderation Insights on TVNU, Sunday (7/11/2021).
“Basically, we are not just talking about Islam, religion. We're talking about humanity. Humans are moderate creatures," said Habib Husein.
In the Qur'an itself, he said, there were several factors that underlie moderation as an obligatory in Islam. In QS Al-Baqarah verse 216, when Allah obliges His servants to fight even though war is something that is not liked.
"When we pray, then we are obliged to pray to the point of loving prayer. When we perform hajj (pilgrimage), performing hajj until we love it. Until the war, Allah swt said, wage war even though you hate it," the Madurese-blooded Habib said.
Basically, humans will hate all forms of war, violence, hatred, sentiment, and so on. However, sometimes they forget. However, with just a little thought of human values, humans could become tolerant individuals.
Explicitly, Habib Husein continued, in QS Yunus verse 99 Allah swt mentioned that differences are a necessity.
“If Allah wants us to have one faith, then Allah will do that. However, Allah allows us to be different because Allah wants to test us with differences in religion and faith,” he said.
This is also confirmed in QS Al-Baqarah verse 256 which states that there is no compulsion in religion.
"Even though you were created in one religion, if you are not moderate in your thinking, you will fight within the religion itself. Violence will continue to trap us into immoderate acts,” the author of the God Is in Your Heart said.
“Only people with little faith who are not confident in their religion, will impose their views on others. Therefore, it is emphasized in the Qur'an that there is no compulsion in religion," he concluded.
