NU school uses "Krama Inggil" during flag raising ceremony

The Islamic Elementary School NU Wali Songo (MINU) Sumberrejo, Bojonegoro run a unique flag raising ceremony for using Javanese modesty words (krama inggil) to commemorate the 68th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia on Monday morning (19/8).<>
Around 07.00 am, all teachers stood neatly in a line and were commissioned as officers at the ceremony. They were commissioned to recite prayer, the 1945 Constitution, be adjudtant carrying the Proclamation and Pancasila texts, be MC, sing in a choir, until act as instructor.
“Kagem pembina upacara, homat... grak,“ was the highly differential style words called krama inggil used by a master of ceremony that is the head of curriculum of the MINU Ahsanul Amilin.
The principal of MINU Mariyanto said, the ceremony by using the krama inggil style was a form of tribute to the Homeland and direct example for the students.
"This (ceremony) is part of our efforts to provide excellent role models in the education of our students directly," he said on the sidelines of the ceremony.
